Mayaland was a first class hotel with amazing architecture and landscaping, a fine restaurant and a couple of beautiful swimming pools. Best of all, it is adjacent to the ruins at Chichen Itza. Not only could we see the ruins from our hotel window, but we were able to access the ruins through the hotel's own gate. I was fortunate to be there in the low season, so our room cost less than $60/night. A fantastic experience.

My only problem with the hotel was one of acoustics. Our room, #21, with it's wooden latticed windows, was across the hall from a couple who carried on an animated conversation in their bathroom until almost midnight, and the tile floors and concrete walls and lack of glass in the windows meant that we had to endure every word of their conversation as we tried to get to sleep. A complaint to the front desk (in person, because the rooms have no phones) eventually produced some quiet. I think that this problem was extraordinary and I don't hold the hotel responsible.

    The location and the setting.

We booked a bungalow, but there were not any when we arrived.

    Very good

The location of the hotel is it's best feature. It's perfect for a night's stay in order to see the pyramids. Just being able to walk out of the hotel and through a private entrance to the grounds of chichen iza is amazingly convenient. Our room was very spacious and had a wonderful view of El Caracol from our bedroom window and balcony. We booked the cheapest room available through Booked.net and it was situated on the 3rd floor of the main building. They Mayan bungalows in the grounds look lovely from the outside but they do not have this view. There are 3 pools in the grounds and they're great to cool off after a hot sticky day exploring but you wouldn't want to spend the day lounging by them. The hotel grounds are lovely, full of palm trees and very tropical with peacocks wandering about. We only ate in the buffet restaurant as the a La Carte was pretty exepensive. The lunch buffet is great, large selection of Mayan and international foods.

I'd probably suggest only spending a night or 2 here. The lunch buffet, although pretty good, was exactly same for 2 days running. This is obviously the main event for the hotel as I think lots of tour groups also come for lunch. Dinner is pretty poor - small selection of dishes and more expensive than lunch. Yes you do have to pay for water. It's m$38 for a largish bottle but you could stock up before you arrive. Taxi in to town is m$70 for a 5 minute drive. Again quite expensive by Mexican standards.

    Good

Only 5 minute walk from chichenitza. Construction tipical and surrounded by nature. Spacious rooms. Nice swimming pool.

There is no way to prevent the light entering the room, the result is waking up early.

    Very good

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We had some confusion with our booking, and they could not have been more accommodating.

The confusion with our booking meant we got to be in three different rooms in the one night we stayed there, and there was significant inconsistency among them. The standard rooms seemed pretty generic. They have a huge luxury suite that is nice, but there was no TV, no place to put clothes, and no wastebaskets! Also, the air conditioner sputtered out the moment we turned it on, and the bed was also broken. The final room we ended up in was a sweet little bungalow with a king size bed and a swimming pool right outside the front door -- it was really beautiful and comfortable.

So close to Chichin Itza. This really is the best location.

The rooms were old and not updated. The beds were also old, older linens, not comfortable.

Clearly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Perfect location with privileged entrance to the ruins, amazing tropical gardens with several pools, spacious rooms, nice staff and fabolous margarita.

    Superb

The reception with a freah towel and a cold drink won us. It was a hot day (as probably usual) and after some hours on the road, arriving at this pretty hotel with this reception was a perfect. The nature inside the hotel property and the mixture between nature and buildings is amazing. Very pretty and relaxing. The walking distance to the Chichen Itza Archeological area (ticket counter inside the hotel property) is awesome (avoiding the main entrance). The rooms were fresh and we had a great view with a balcony.

The check out was awkward. It was tough to get an invoice or recepit from the casheir (there is not really a "front desk"). The beds are not excellent, but are ok. Water is very expensive.

    Very good

The location was excellent, next to Chichen Itza. This was great for visiting the site without other tourist!

Service, especially the reception: more busy with their own stuff/ uninterested. Just doing enough, but no extra help/smile. The breakfast is expensive.

The beauty of the rooms & grounds were incredible. For an old hotel, it was perfectly maintained. The wood carvings in the room with views onto tropical paradise gave one a very peaceful feeling. The staff complete the picture with genuine friendliness & skill. The restaurant was one of my all-time favorites. Only steps to the entrance of Chichen-Itza, which can be toured before the busses & the heat of the day arrive. Perfect!

    Fabulous

Perfectly placed for Chichen Itza. Great view from the room. Good sized room. Friendly staff.

In the evening only one of the restaurants was open - so not much choice over where to eat. Too many mosquitos so got bitten to death.

The hotel was ideally situated, with its own entrance to the Mayan ruins. Our room was very comfortable, with a spacious ensuite bathroom. The staff were very efficient and helpful. For example, they organised a guide to take us around the ruins. The food in the restaurant was very good, and the hotel represented excellent value for money.
